Subject: Soldier Socks: 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion

This is an enquiry e-mail via http://www.soldiersocks.com/ from:

SgtMaj Robert Williamson

As 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion begins to deploy to Afghanistan, I would like to request that our battalion become one of your adopted units. I replaced SgtMaj Luke Converse and he had great things to say for your program. Like before, 2d LAR Battalion will be in austere environments while in Afghanistan and would greatly benefit from anything you could do to improve the morale of our Marines and Sailors. Thank you!

2nd Battalion 9th Marines2/9 Marines are living a spartan life and in daily contact with the Taliban, kicking butt. However, they lack many necessities operating out of small FOBs and OP/LPs in Helmand. Boxer shorts are needed as well as canned food such as Mac and Cheese, fruit, beef stew. Baby wipes, and with cold weather soon to be upon them, hand warmers, gloves with fingers cut out, layered clothing etc. Please send for distribution to :

1stBrigade_3rd_IDDear SoldierSocks,

Thank you for your support. I received your wonderful care package. The soldiers in my unit and I greatly appreciate it. It felt wonderful to be able to put a new clean pair of socks on our feet after a long mission. It brought smiles to our faces knowing that people at home are thinking of us.

I live in Ankeny, Iowa and I heard all about your organization by Elvis Duran Show on Z107.5. I am dating an Iowa Army National Guardsman, and he has been to Afghanistan already once for a year and will be headed back there this coming summer for another year.

Camp_SolernoDear SoldierSocks,

I wanted to send a quick note of thanks for your support and encouragement during my deployment to Afghanistan. I'll be packing up to head home in the next few weeks. It's been terrific to know that the folks back home have been thinking of me and my fellow soldiers during our service over here.

All the best,

France

Sgt_Major_Luke_ConverseChris-

Hello, We have received a ton of stuff from your organization. Thanks so much for your generosity and taking the trouble to send organize the organization- raise money, take the time to package and mail- pretty amazing…

Receiving packages from home is good. Receiving packages from those grass roots organizations such as yours is refreshing. Not only do we need and make good use of what you send us, but it sends and important message to the Marines- that they are appreciated and understood. What they do on a daily basis is nothing short of amazing. The elements they endure, the weather extremes, the fatigue, the danger- and the real person stuff- they miss home and family- they eat their field rations- which aren’t bad, but they can get old… kind of monotonous and bland- even with liberal doses of hot sauce…

It means a lot to the Marines. It shows that the people back home appreciate and understand them.

I wanted to thank you for all that you do- and your generosity and for taking the time to put this together…

My Battalion will be getting relieved soon and will be heading back to the states- please don’t send any more packages to me, because they are no longer forwarding our mail- our mail will all be sent to our unit at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

I will however, put my counterpart- in the unit that relieves us in touch with you…

Thanks and Semper Fidelis
